Great effects,easy to use, I learned how to program patches and all that in just a couple of days, the manual is helpful, it has diagrams, but it could have been maybe just a bit more clear. Its chorus and flanger are okay and its doubling effect might sound interesting at certain moments but its step and pitch shift effects are useless in a sense that they just don't sound good, especially the step effect
Another thing that I don't like about this pedal is that it only has 1 output jack
I was expecting 2 output jacks since I thought its a digital effects pedal so it should have one output jack for each channel but boy was I wrong
This is probably the best way to use it since it doesn't sound good on its own

- The 505 guitar effectspedal from Zoom comes in a carton box with an operation manual. It doesn’t come with any other accessory. The Zoom 505 has 2 pedals for patch switching. It has 24 individual built-in effects. These 24 built-in effects are user-programmable patches, where each patch can use up to 9 effects simultaneously in any combination, and it also has an integrated auto-chromatic guitar tuner which can be accessed by bypassing the effects patches. It has an output jack for the optional FPO1, which is an expression pedal for the Zoom 505, or the FSO1, an optional foot switch which can serve for bank UP switching. It has one guitar input jack and only one output jack which also serves as output for headphones. The Zoom 505 can be used with batteries or with an AC adapter. It’s made mostly
  of plastic but I’ve had it for years and it still hasn’t broken. I’ve used it in lots of gigs, so as long as you don’t drop it, it shouldn’t break.
  The Zoom 505 has several effects including compressor, distortion, Zoom noise reduction, amp simulator, equalizer, modulation, and delay/reverb. Most of it’s presets don’t really sound good. In fact, I didn’t find any sound that I liked out of the box. I had to do lots of tweaking before I was finally able to come up with a sound that came close to what I liked. Its distortion sounds too artificial. I came up with a distortion setting which was doable, but it still sounded artificial if used with certain amplifiers. Its delay time is only up to 370 ms, and you only get to choose between Hall reverb and room reverb. You can’t ...
- use delay and reverb at the same time. This is very limiting and I personally don’t like its delay and reverb sounds. Its equalizer only allows you to boost or cut 1 range at a time, which means you can adjust presence, high, midrange, or low but not any of them simultaneously. Again, this limits your ability to fine tune your sound, which further aggravates the fact that its presets don’t sound good. Its modulation effects include chorus, flanger, doubling, step and pitch shift. I just can’t figure out any use for that effect.

I would’ve forgiven its effects’ shortcomings if it had 2 output jacks since I use 2 amplifiers with different effects chains for each amp but sadly, this wasn’t the case.
  The Zoom 505 was a very cheap guitar effectspedal. Conventional wisdom that says you get what you pay for certainly applied to it. Its effects sound band, it only has 1 output jack, and it doesn’t come with any accessories. I should have gone for a more expensive yet higher-quality guitar effects pedal. I just use the Zoom 505 as a secondary effects pedal to complement my analog distortion. This is probably the best way to use it since it doesn’t sound good on its own.

I am not a Pro Player, but have played for 20 plus years. Have played in bands, live on stage. I'm not saying that for any other reason than to maybe share a little experience with some of the newer players. I have had many kinds of amps, guitars, and effects pedals through the years. If you know a particular sound that you are after ..... find out what that particular band uses. If not, then you can't go wrong with a Zoom 505!This pedal has the most popular effects on board that have been used for the last 3 decades .. and some have been in use even longer than that! Couple that with the fact that with a set of Head Phones you have one of the best practice tools available. It's settings are simple, effective, and you can practice in private so you can just get as crazy and expressive as you like without bothering anyone else .. With all of this in a package that you can get for less than the price of a good steak ... it's a no brainer. The 505 is proven .. and stage worthy on top of that! You can't go wrong ... get one if you can ... but, I have to warn you ... you just might be bidding against me because I still want to get a couple more in reserve .. and at least one to give to my 1 year old Grandson!Read full review
